Should I Tip?
How Much Should I Tip?
Tipping is standard in the dive industry 15–20% is recommended for good service, just like in restaurants.
Why Tip?
Your instructor and captain do far more than guide your dive. They load/unload gear, swap tanks, clean equipment, and ensure your safety. Tips show appreciation for their hard work.
But Isn’t It a Dream Job?
It can be—but most instructors earn close to minimum wage, despite investing heavily in training, gear, insurance, and dues. Many earn just $20–25/day and often leave the industry within a few years.
Why Aren’t Instructors Paid More?
Dive shops often lower course prices to compete, cutting instructor wages to do so. Low prices may seem like a deal, but they often come at the cost of quality instruction.
How to Tip
Tip in cash, directly to your instructor and captain if possible. If you’d like us to split it, leave it at the office with instructions. Please use clean, undamaged U.S. bills—Honduran banks won’t accept torn or marked money.
